I was invited to bring greetings from SCASL to the Old English Consortium Conference on Monday October 12th. It was a nice group of media specialists gathered for some great concurrent sessions. I presented along with my partner "Shaking up your Fiction Collection" which delt with reorganizing the Fiction collection by Genre. I ended up doign two sessions because of a cancelation. Hopefully I'll present it at SCASL in the future but right now conference stuff is keeping me busy.

SCASL Friends,
As most of you are aware, we have been working with the association management company, Capital Consultants, for the last year. A management taskforce was appointed in the spring to solicit feedback and evaluate our services with Capital Consultants. The taskforce reported to the SCASL board in June, and the board ultimately voted to discontinue service with Capital Consultants after September 30th, 2009.

Just wanted to send a quick update on the ALA Conference. Amanda LeBlanc and I are attending the conference and working on plans for the SCASL 2010 Conference. Ann Martin, President of AASL will be meeting with us to plan her visit to our conference March 24-26, 2010. If you have not been to Chicago, it is an awesome place to visit! The best practices guidelines from the PointSmart.ClickSafe (PS.CS) task force on online safety and literacy released July 8 put a heavy emphasis on education and a complaint/response procedure when problems arise. The

The current issue of NCTE's Classroom Notes Plus (April 2009) has a great lesson plan: "a multi-media follow-up to reading that turns students into directors and has them lead production teams to create movie trailers based on books."
